VICE PRESIDENT, PERSONAL LINES
Our client is an A (A. M. Best) rated Property & Casualty Insurance Company in Northern New England that utilizes an extensive network of independent agents in Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont. Its recent alliance with a larger Midwest U.S. Property & Casualty insurer will accelerate its growth in current and new markets.

The Vice President, Personal Lines is a member of the company’s Senior Management Team and reports to the President & CEO.
The candidate must be able to operate autonomously with minimal direction. The position has full responsibility for the entire Personal Lines book of business (about $35 million) as well as the establishment and maintenance of strong agency relationships.
The position oversees a staff of 12-14 employees, and will have two direct reports (Underwriting Supervisor and Field Manager).
The successful candidate will be a person of integrity, reliability, and accountability.
The candidate must possess demonstrated technical underwriting skills, prior success in performance management and employee development, and the ability to strengthen the company’s position in the marketplace. In addition, the candidate will participate in the development and execution of the overall company’s strategic objectives.
The candidate will bring a good mix of “hands on” and “big picture” management skills. The ability to strengthen departmental underwriting guidelines and protocols will be important, as will the ability to assess individual risks when necessary. In addition, the candidate will actively manage staff members’ professional development on an ongoing basis. At the same time, the candidate will play an active role in developing and executing company-wide strategic initiatives.
The candidate should be a clear communicator up and down the organization. He/she should be able to successfully manage the marketing process, and develop the staff’s competency in that area as well.
The candidate will also work collaboratively with the parent company on various projects and issues, including product development.
The successful candidate will be seen as a strong teacher, team builder, and mentor by the staff and the marketplace.
The successful candidate will have 10 or more years of relevant experience, likely including roles in personal lines underwriting management. The candidate will be a high energy, flexible leader who understands and embraces the rapid changes common with a young, growing company.
